IIT ADMISSION

RESIDENCY, ADMISSION AND RETENTION POLICY OF THE INSTITUTE

In addition to the policies and procedures stated in the University Code and Student Handbook, the following are the policies applicable to the Institute of Information Technology.

ADMISSION POLICY

Enrollment in the Institute of Information Technology is a contractual relationship between the student and the college whereby the student agrees to abide the rules and regulations of the college. Applicants for admission to an undergraduate degree program of the University must meet the minimum standards set forth by the University Admission Office, as well as the specific requirements set by the program into which they seek admission.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR FRESHMEN

The Institute of Information Technology admits qualified freshmen applicants. They must meet the admission requirements set by the Institute and the University.

All students who intend to enroll in Information Technology program must:

  1. have general weighted average in Report Form 138 of 81% and above with no grade lower than 80% in Science and Mathematics
  2. take and pass the written Romblon State University Admission Test (RSUAT) with an average grade of 80% or better (refer to the admission policy of the university);
  3. take and pass the oral examination administered by the Institute (committee on oral examination) with a grade of 60% or better using the rubrics prepared for the purpose.
  4. comply with other requirements as determined by the University and the Institute.

 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR TRANSFEREES

Transferees will be considered subject to the following conditions and requirements (Aside from the requirements as stipulated in the Student Handbook and University Code)

  1. The student should have a cumulative general weighted average of at least 2.75 (not to include PE and NSTP in the computation)
  2. The student who wish to transfer must have passed 85% of the subjects taken from the former school.
  3. Transferees must submit all necessary requirements to the office of the Registrar.

 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR SHIFTERS FROM OTHER PROGRAMS OR COLLEGES

Students who intend to shift from other program or college must meet the following requirements:

  • Application Form for Shifters
  • Evaluation of Admission records from the Chairman of the Information Technology Department where the shifter wants to enroll
  • Clearance from the following offices: Cashier’s Office, Registrar’s Office, Guidance Office, College Librarian, Dean’s/Director’s Office (previous College), Student Affairs Office, SSC Office, and The Harrow Office
  • The student who wish to shift must have passed 85% of the subjects taken from the former college/institute.
  • The student must have a cumulative general weighted average of 2.75 (not to include PE and NSTP/ROTC in the computation)
  • The student must not have any derogatory disciplinary record.

ENROLMENT PROCEDURE

  1. Incoming First Year
    1. Present the Admission Slip from the Admission Office to the IIT Secretary.
    2. Get Information Data Sheet from the secretary, fill it up and return back to the IIT Secretary for encoding to the computerized enrolment system.
    3. Pay all necessary fees (SSC, Harrow, IITSO fee)
    4. Register to NSTP/ROTC
    5. Proceed to the IIT office for confirmation of section, approval of subjects and assessment of enrolment fees.
    6. Pay fees to the Cashiers office
    7. Proceed to the Office of the Registrar to secure copy of Registration form.
    8. Proceed to IT for processing of Identification Card
  1. For old students
    1. Present the grades taken in the preceding semester to the Department Chairperson for evaluation.
    2. Fill up copy of Consent to Register form, let the Department Chair countersign in the form.
    3. Using your own account, open the computerized enrolment system and enroll the approved subject to be taken
    4. Pay all necessary fees (SSC, Harrow, IITSO fee)
    5. Proceed to the office of the IIT Director for confirmation and approval of subjects enrolled.
    6. Pay fees to the Cashiers office
    7. Get copy Registration form from the Office of the Registrar.
  2. For Returning Student
    1. Fill up Returning Student Slip
    2. Follow the procedure as stated for old students

 RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

A student who is enrolled in any four-year degree program should finish the course within four to six (4-6) year period. If in case the student exceeded the required residency, he/she will be required to submit a written explanation for such violation. The Committee on Evaluation will convene for such purpose and study on the case. The Committee will make recommendation whether the student will be re-admitted or not.

For students with broken residency, they must accomplish and submit Student Leave of Absence Form so as to exclude the years they were absent from the required years.

Transferees and shifters taking information technology degree program should have a residency of at least four (4) semesters in the institute or 50% of the total units of the program must be taken in the university before he/she will be allowed to graduate.

 RETENTION REQUIREMENTS

Students who failed a 3 unit subject subsequently a three unit subject will be removed from the normal load during next semester and if he/she failed two 3 unit subjects a two three unit subjects will likewise will remove from the normal load during the next semester.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE

For any valid reason that the student who wants to leave the Institute but intend to return in some time, a Student Leave of Absent Form shall be filled up.

RETURNEES

            Returning students are former IIT students who have been out of the school for at least three semesters.

Students applying for the re-admission must present the following to the Director, Institute of Information Technology:

  • Accomplished Application Form for Returnees
  • Performance Evaluation for all semesters and summer subjects previously taken.
  • Clearance from the following offices: Cashier’s Office, Registrar’s Office, Guidance Office, University Library, Institute Director, Student Affairs Office.

In case of leave of absence due to illness, the student should present a certification from the attending physician confirming the student’s fitness to study.

Students with disciplinary records, academic deficiencies, unauthorized leave of absence (students who have been out of the school for at least four semesters) will be subjected for further evaluation. The Director reserves the right to disapprove request from admission in these cases.

STUDENT INFORMATION DATA

Upon admission to the Institute, the student shall fill up the IIT Student Information Data Form for future reference.
