Donned in traditional Asian attire, over hundreds of employees flocked to the University Gymnasium last October 3, Monday, yearning to seize coveted awards and recognitions in the 3rd Gawad Parangal for Service Excellence.

The said event is held annually to recognize and honor employees for their hard work and priceless contributions to the accomplishments of the Romblon State University adhering to Republic Act No. 6731 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of Public Officials and Employees.

As a state-owned higher education institution, the University holds the Gawad Parangal in celebration of the CSCโ€™s Philippine Civil Service Anniversary.

Former CHED Commissioner and Chairlady of the University Board of Regents Dr. Lillian De Las Llagas keynoted on the ten-year overarching theme โ€œTransforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-ready Servant Heroesโ€ with focus on resilience.

โ€œAng inyong indibidwal at kolektibong pamamaraan, pagsusumikap, pasensya, karunungan, istratehiya ay katunayan o ebidensiya na kayo ang kadahilanan sa mga tinatamasang tagumpay ng Romblon State University,โ€ De Las Llagas said in her address.

Dignitaries of the provincial government were represented by Atty. Bernie Fondevilla and Atty. Lizette Mortel. Odiongan town mayor Hon. Trina Firmalo-Fabic also graced the awards rites.

In her third turn, University President Merian Catajay-Mani delivered her State of the University Address. She presented the milestones of the University in the last academic year.

Among the events highlighted were the hosting of the first regional REDi congress, increase in wages of employees, Universityโ€™s partnerships with Canadian and American universities, presidency of former ILAO director Reynaldo Ramos in Technological University of the Philippines, consistent performance of the University in the Criminologist Licensure Examination, and status of the University as NEAP Learning Service Provider.

Luway R&D team seized the Pag-asa ng RSU with their project โ€œDevelopment, Performance, Evaluation and Utilization of Tiger Grass Post Harvest Technologies.โ€ R&D Luway Team is composed of Engr. Virne B. Dalisay, Engr. Rey P. Lilang, Dr. Bilshan F. Servaรฑez, Engr. Christian M. Mortel, Dr. Alfredo F. Fortu Jr. and Dr. Eddie G. Fetalvero as its members.

NSTP and DRRMO director Edgar Andalecio bagged Dangal ng RSU for his leadership, good rapport with colleagues, and active involvement in Couples for Christ leading and initiating humanitarian causes such as the Gawad Kalinga housing projects.

Acting HRMO Nonito Blancia received Lingkod ng RSU out of his significant contribution as long-serving educator and co-author of Assessment of Learning textbooks. It is reported that in his tenure, the University was accelerated to PRIME-HRM Maturity Level 2.

Other employees clinched minor awards for their loyalty, professional growth, and outstanding performance in research, extension, and development as well as in administrative and support services. As finale, the customary search for Lakan and Lakambini 2022 was pulled off to showcase the most stunning garb in the event. Flaunting his pitch-black Vietnamese ao dai, John Fabello was declared Lakan 2022 while Cielo Amor Ferrancullo dazzling in a golden chut thai was hailed as Lakambini 2022. The motif of this yearโ€™s Gawad Parangal is Asian culture exhibiting their clothing, dances, and music.
