Institute of Information Technology


History

On February 1995, a private individual representing a private company discussed with the think tank of RSC on the possibility of bringing computer technology into RSC. The matter was discussed vigorously and was presented to the right authorities and was approved.

Summer of the same year, the faculty of RSC that numbers to around to 60 undergo extensive training of computer application which is a part of Build-Operate Transfer Scheme. First semester of the same year the Computer Operations and Programming Program was offered. After a year the Degree Program Bachelor of Science in Information Technology was formally offered whose specialization is in Information and Computer Technology.

During the second semester of school year 2001-2002, President Idella G. Formilleza issued an Executive Order separating Information Technology Center from the Institute of Engineering and Technology and creating it as an independent unit directly under the office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

On July 17, 2002 the Information Technology Center was again overhauled and by virtue of a Memorandum Circular No. 2 Series of 2002 it was converted into an institute named Institute of Information and Communications Technology.

On October 2005, President Jeter S. Sespeñe who succeeded President Idella G. Formilleza implemented the rationalization of Institute and the IICT was merged to the Institute of Engineering and Technology and created a new unit, the Information Technology Center (ITC). The unit was directly under the supervision of the Office of the President and headed by a Director.

On April 2012, President Arnulfo Fregon de Luna who succeed President Jeter S. Sespeñe issued an Office Order separating the IT Programs from the College of Engineering that paved the way for the establishment of an Academic Unit names as the Institute of Information Technology headed by a Director. The Academic Unit offers two programs; the four-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and the two-year Certificate in Computer Operations and Programming.
