Image of 2 CET Faculty joins the Circle of Research Excellence as Members of NRCP

Dr. Alfredo Fortu Jr., Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology and Engr. Christian M. Mortel, Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Department, are among the newest members of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), the frontier of science and humanities research.

Dr. Fortu considers this an honor and opportunity: “Engr. Mortel and I are the only members of NRCP-Division VII in the MIMAROPA region, which we can greatly benefit from in terms of research proposal fundings and relevant training and conferences in our field.”

Application for NRCP membership undergoes a thorough evaluation process in different stages and takes 5-7 months or more before a chance of membership.

Dr. Fortu and Engr. Mortel’s Scopus-indexed research publications highlight their credentials to qualify as a fellow to the roster of highly-trained and productive scientists and researchers in NRCP.

They are now officially members of NRCP’s Division VII in the expertise of Engineering and Industrial research.

RSU Inaugurates Metalworking and Woodworking School Factories

The Center for Innovative Learning and Enterprise Development at the Romblon State University (C-iLearnED@RSU) is in full swing after DOST-MIMAROPA turns overcutting and bending equipment for the school factories housed by the C-iLearnED@RSU, the pioneering Research Center of the University.

Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani and Lina V. Servaรฑez, the Provincial Director of DOST- PSTC Romblon lead the ribbon-cutting with Dr. Alfredo F. Fortu Jr., Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology. Also in attendance are Dr. Bilshan F. Servaรฑez, Vice President for Research Extension Development and Innovation, Dr. Tomas T. Faminial, Vice-President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Emelyn R. Villanueva, the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, and Atty. Glenn Niรฑo M. CET spearheads the metalworking and woodworking laboratories considered as an in-campus business enterprise managed by RSU.

DOST funding of more than 2 million for the metalworking and woodworking enterprise aims to enhance the K-12 and outcomes-based (OBE) engineering program as technopreneurship is one of the required courses in the new engineering curriculum.

This project will also beef up the research capabilities of students and faculty members through the addition of equipment for developing new products.

Ceremonial Transfer of Fund to RSU

A ceremonial activity with the theme โ€œConvergence in Coconut Farming Communities Towards Sustainable Rural Enterprise Project (2020 Bayanihan)โ€ was held last July 22, 2021, at San Andres National High School.
