Promoting a healthier and more informed workforce, Romblon State University (RSU) held the “Road to Wellness: Understanding the YAKAP Program” Symposium on September 17 at the RSU Quadrangle, providing teaching and non-teaching personnel with information on preventive healthcare and available primary care services.

The activity was spearheaded by the Human Resource Management and Development Office (HRMDO) and the Health Services Office (HSO), in partnership with PhilHealth Romblon, as part of the University’s continuing efforts to strengthen health and wellness among its employees.

Main Campus teaching and non-teaching personnel attended the symposium onsite, while personnel from the RSU Satellite Campuses participated through Zoom, allowing the discussion to reach the University community across its campuses.

Serving as the resource speaker was Mr. Leandro A. Flores, Chief Social Insurance Officer of PhilHealth Romblon, who discussed the Yaman sa Kalusugan Program (YAKAP), a PhilHealth primary care initiative that aims to strengthen access to preventive and comprehensive healthcare services.

Flores emphasized that awareness of the program can extend beyond the individuals who participate in the orientation, encouraging the RSU community to share what they learn with others.

“What PhilHealth wants ay maging ambassadors tayo. Kung ano man ang inyong matutunan tungkol sa YAKAP, tulungan ninyo ang PhilHealth na maikalat ito, simula sa inyong pamilya, mga kasamahan sa trabaho, hanggang sa inyong mga kaibigan,” he encouraged the employees.

Following the discussion, Flores addressed questions raised by both the onsite and online participants, providing further clarification on the YAKAP Program and the healthcare services and benefits available to its members.

The symposium was conducted in recognition of the importance of health and wellness in building a productive and thriving university community. It also sought to address the need for greater awareness of available healthcare services, preventive measures, and government programs that can help individuals make informed decisions about their health.

Through the activity, participants were oriented on the YAKAP Program, its healthcare services and benefits, the importance of preventive healthcare and early detection, and healthy lifestyle practices. It also aimed to strengthen awareness of available healthcare resources while encouraging a culture of health and wellness within the University community.

The initiative further supports RSU’s commitment to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, reinforcing the University’s efforts to promote not only quality education and public service, but also the well-being of the people who make up the RSU community.
